Raised in Raleigh, North Carolina, by conservative parents, Alyssa was unsure of her political views for the longest tie. Her parents did not promote diversity within their family, especially racial diversity. However, Alyssa began to develop an open mind after taking International Baccalaureate classes in the beginning of her junior year of high school. Those classes allowed her to "[meet] other open-minded students and to look at situation objectively" (Alyssa). As she gained more knowledge about how corrupt the American government is, Alyssa's burning passion for change increased.
Her game plan is to graduate with her Bachelor's in Political Science. Although unsure of what specific career she wants to pursue after graduation, she plans to create positive change, especially in North Carolina. Little did she know, her best friend would help her flourish her burning passion for change into a career. From those facts she learned, Alyssa and her best friend made a deal, "You will handle the issues on the international level, while I work at the national level." Since then, Alyssa has been involved with advocacy projects: Earned Income Tax Credit and Reach Every Mother and Child Act. She has also met with the congressmen of North Carolina on behalf of those projects in legislation.
Alyssa chose to widen her career opportunities by traveling across the country to attend Cal State LA. Attending Cal State LA, gives her more benefits to successfully achieve her future career due to the liberal community. Benefits such as gaining experience with internships and law clubs with like-minded people. Alyssa is truly a spectacular young lady. Passionate, determined, and wise, what better qualities would anyone as for in a politician?
